Your server.
Backed up, live.
CloneSync copies your channels, messages, files, roles and permissions to a second server, then keeps it in sync as things change. Automatic snapshots let you restore your server later in one click.
- Free plan
- Set up in minutes
- Catches up after downtime
Much more than messages.
Roles, permissions, threads and server settings are copied too, and later changes follow within seconds.
Messages
Your channels' messages with the original name, avatar and date. How far back it goes depends on your plan.
Images and videos
Re-uploaded in original quality, not just linked, up to the backup server's size limit.
Threads and forums
Active and archived threads, forum posts, replies and forwarded messages.
Roles and permissions
Roles with their colours and order, @everyone permissions and per-channel permissions.
Members' roles
When someone joins the backup server, they automatically get their original roles and nickname.
Bans
Existing bans, plus new bans and unbans as they happen.
Server settings
Banner, invite background, verification level, emojis and stickers.
Edits and deletions
Edit or delete a message, even an old one, and the backup follows.
Clear logs
See what was synced and how much on the dashboard, or download the member list.
Three steps and you're done.
Invite the bot
Add it to your main server and your backup server with the Administrator permission. You need to own both servers, or have their owner's permission.
Start the backup
On the dashboard, pick the main server and the backup server, then click start. In Discord, /start takes you there.
Let it run
The bot copies what's already there, then keeps syncing every change.
If the bot goes down, it catches up.
After a restart or network error, it continues where it stopped. Messages aren't copied twice, and anything that changed while it was offline is caught up.
- Every message is copied exactly once
- Missed edits and deletions are caught up
- Updates don't stop the bot
$ bot restarting… → unfinished message: #general, part 2/3 done → sending part 3 ............ ok → missed edits ................ 4 caught up ✓ live sync continues
Frequently asked questions
How long does the first copy take?
It depends on the size of your server. Discord limits how fast bots can work, so a big server can take hours or even days. Channels go live as they finish, and you can follow the progress on the dashboard.
What happens if the bot goes down?
When it restarts, it picks up where it left off and catches up on what changed in the meantime. Messages aren't copied twice.
Are members copied too?
Bots can't invite people to a server; Discord doesn't allow it. But anyone who joins the backup server automatically gets their original roles. You can also download the member list as a CSV.
How big can copied files be?
As big as the backup server allows: 10 MB without boosts, 50 MB on Level 2 and 100 MB on Level 3.
If I delete a message, is it deleted from the backup too?
Yes, by default. If you'd rather keep deleted messages, turn that on in the dashboard and they stay in the backup, marked “Deleted”.
Who can back up a server or take a snapshot?
Only the server's owner, or an Administrator the owner allows on the Dashboard (Access). Copying to that person's own server (backup or restore) needs a separate permission. Backups and snapshots always belong to the owner: they use the owner's plan and sit in the owner's account. If someone loses the Administrator permission, their access ends automatically, and the owner gets a message about every step. A backup started by anyone else without permission stops by itself, and their snapshots of that server are deleted.
What comes back when I restore a snapshot?
The server as it was in that snapshot (channels, roles, permissions and settings), plus the channels' messages. By default, messages from the server's older kept snapshots come back too, in order and each only once; you can turn this off in the Restore window. Messages that were already deleted when the snapshot was made don't come back. Each snapshot holds only the latest messages per channel, as many as your plan allows, so if more arrive between two snapshots, the extra ones can't be restored.
Have a backup before you need one.
Try it for free. Setup takes minutes, then the bot does the rest.
