Terms of service
Last updated: 7 November 2026
CloneSync (the "service") is a Discord bot and website that copies the content of a Discord server to another (backup) server, keeps the two in sync in real time, and – on request – takes snapshots of the server. The service is operated by: Varjas Máté János, [email protected]. By using the service, you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy.
🧪 Test period – everything is free now
CloneSync is currently in a test period: there are no payments, only the free DEMO plan is available, and the payment provider (Paddle) receives no data about you. At least 1 month before the test period ends, we will inform every user (on the website and in a Discord message) about what changes: the paid plans, the prices and the changes to the terms. The parts below about payment apply only once payments start.
⚠ Prohibited: illegal servers and content
CloneSync may only be used for lawful purposes, on Discord servers that operate lawfully. You must not use the service on a server or for content that violates Hungarian or European Union law, the law of your country, or Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines. In particular, the following are prohibited:
- child sexual abuse material or any content that endangers minors;
- distributing copyright-infringing content (e.g. pirated films, music or software, cracked programs);
- trading drugs, weapons or other illegal goods or services;
- fraud, phishing, malware, or distributing or trading stolen data, accounts or payment card details;
- terrorism, incitement to violence, hate speech;
- publishing other people's personal data without permission (doxxing), harassment, threats, or sharing intimate images without consent;
- any other unlawful activity.
In such cases, we will stop and delete the backup and snapshots immediately, without prior notice, ban the server and the account from the service, not refund any fees paid to the extent permitted by law, and – where required by law or justified – notify Discord and the competent authorities. If you see such a server, please report it on the Report a server page, or contact us: Varjas Máté János, [email protected].
1. Who can use it
- Anyone who is old enough to use Discord and accepts Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
- Paid plans may only be purchased by persons aged 18 or over; a minor may only do so with the consent of a parent or guardian.
- Only the server's Discord owner can start a backup, a snapshot or a restore – or an Administrator of the server whom the owner allows on the website's Dashboard (Access). For a backup, this applies to both the original and the backup server.
- The bot asks for the Administrator permission because it has to create and edit channels, roles, permissions, emojis and bans on the backup server. It uses this permission only to run backups and snapshots.
2. Your responsibilities
- You may only back up or take snapshots of a server whose content you are entitled to copy, and you must inform the server's members that the server is being backed up.
- Whoever set up the backup is responsible for the content of the backup server and for who can access it.
- Restoring a snapshot and emptying the backup server can delete channels, roles, emojis and messages on the chosen server. You are solely responsible for the consequences of the operations you start (backup, emptying, restore, deleting snapshots) – check which server you restore to, and what, before you start.
- You must not use the service to copy other people's content without permission, for harassment or spam, to circumvent Discord's rules, to spread prohibited content, or to overload the service.
- Copyright complaints: if you believe that a server using the service infringes your copyright, report it on the Report a server page ("Piracy / copyright infringement"), or at the contact details above.
3. Plans and payment
Now (test period): there are no payments, only the free DEMO plan is available. The points below apply once payments start; everyone will be informed at least 1 month before.
- The features and prices of the plans are shown on the Pricing page. Prices are monthly and exclude VAT; VAT is added at checkout based on where you live, and the total is shown before you pay.
- Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: it issues the invoice and handles all customer service inquiries about payments, as well as refunds. Payments are also subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms.
- Subscriptions renew automatically every month, and your payment method is charged until you cancel. You can turn off automatic renewal at any time on the Billing page; your plan then stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- A subscription belongs to your user account. When it ends, the free DEMO plan's rules apply; your backups are not deleted, but continue within the DEMO plan's limits.
- We notify you in a Discord message before your plan ends or renews, and when it ends.
- If the service is unavailable for an extended period through the operator's fault, we may extend subscriptions by the time lost.
- Withdrawal and refunds: in accordance with consumer protection law and Paddle's Buyer Terms. You can send your request to Paddle or to the contact details above.
- We may change prices and plan features. We will notify you at least 30 days before a price change that affects your running subscription takes effect; if you do not accept it, you can cancel your subscription before then.
4. How the service works
- We operate the service with the utmost care, but provide it "as is": we cannot guarantee uninterrupted, error-free operation.
- Because of Discord's limits (file size, rate limits, permissions), there may be delays, or some items may not be copyable. The exact limits are listed on the Features page.
- The backup lives on Discord: if Discord deletes the server or makes it unavailable, we cannot be held responsible. Details: 7. Liability.
- The service is independent of Discord: it is not endorsed, approved or supported by Discord, and Discord is not responsible for it.
- The backup is a one-way copy. Changes flow from the original server to the backup server, never the other way round. CloneSync does not protect the content of the backup server (its messages, channels, categories, roles) from being changed or deleted by hand, so we recommend setting the backup server up so that nobody can modify it. If something on the backup server is deleted or changed by hand, this is how it works: (a) the copy of a message that was deleted is not restored by CloneSync on its own, not even on a resync, so that message will be missing from the backup; (b) a deleted channel or thread is created again by CloneSync, and its history is copied again – within the limits of the plan; (c) a deleted category, role or emoji is put back on a resync. If content deleted on the backup server cannot be recovered this way, the whole copy can be made again by restarting the backup (emptying the backup server). The operator is not responsible for gaps, or for missing or faulty copies, that result from changes made by hand on the backup server.
- Who can manage the backup and the snapshots: a server's backup and snapshots always belong to the server's Discord owner: they use the owner's plan, are in the owner's account, and the owner is responsible for their use. On the Dashboard (Access), the owner can allow the server's Administrators to start / stop / set up the backup, take snapshots, view / delete the snapshots and restore, and – separately – to start a backup of the server onto their own server and restore its snapshots there too (without this permission, the server's content can only be copied onto the owner's servers); the owner can take this back at any time, and it ends by itself when the person is no longer an Administrator. The owner gets a message about the steps taken with their permission. Someone else can restore the owner's snapshot only onto the owner's servers (onto their own server only with the separate permission). A backup not started by the owner (or without permission) stops by itself; someone's snapshots of a server they do not own, kept without permission, are deleted by themselves. Our support team may access it for troubleshooting.
5. Server snapshots, images, videos and files
At the user's request, the Snapshots service records the state of a Discord server at a given time and allows it to be restored to a server chosen by the user. By using the service, the user acknowledges and accepts the following:
- How attachments are stored. CloneSync does not copy or store images, videos and other files attached to messages ("attachments"). For attachments, a snapshot contains only the file's name, size, type and a link to the copy stored on Discord's servers. The attachment remains on Discord's servers; its retention, availability and deletion are governed by Discord's rules in force at the time.
- Automatic snapshots and deletion of old ones. After a server's first snapshot, CloneSync automatically takes new snapshots of the server at the interval of the subscribed plan, as long as the user has a snapshot of it, the plan allows it, CloneSync is on the server, and the user is the server's owner. Once a new snapshot is complete, only the plan's number of newest snapshots of the server are kept; older ones are deleted automatically and permanently. Automatic snapshots can be stopped by deleting all snapshots of the server. The numbers (servers, interval, snapshots kept) are listed in the plan descriptions and may change.
- Which messages go into a snapshot. Each snapshot contains the latest messages of every channel at the moment it is taken, as many as the plan allows (on the Pricing page: “Snapshot: last … messages / channel”). A restore brings back the messages of the server's older snapshots that are still kept too (channel by channel in order, each once; not the ones that had been deleted when the restored snapshot was made); this can be switched off in the Restore window. If more new messages are posted in a channel between two snapshots, the earlier ones are in neither snapshot and cannot be restored. If more messages need to be kept, the user can choose a bigger plan. The Snapshots page shows on the snapshot concerned how many messages were left out. If the user switches to a bigger plan, the snapshots already made stay as they are (the left out messages are not added to them later), and the next automatic snapshot is the first one made with the new plan's number.
- Restoring. When restoring, CloneSync downloads the attachment from Discord using the link and uploads it again. Message attachments can only be restored if the original messages still exist. An attachment can only be restored if it is still available on Discord at the time of the restore. Of the reactions, CloneSync puts each emoji back once (as itself); how many and who reacted originally is neither saved nor restored.
- Retention is not guaranteed. An attachment is lost permanently and irrecoverably if the original message, channel or server is deleted, if Discord removes the file or makes it inaccessible, or if Discord changes how links or files are served. In that case, the restored message shows a note in place of the attachment.
- Items stored in the snapshot. The server icon, banner, emojis, stickers and avatars are not stored as files in the snapshot either: only their links on Discord are kept, and the rules above for attachments apply to them. The rest of the snapshot (settings, roles, channels, message text) is stored on CloneSync's storage.
- Exclusion of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator excludes liability for the loss, corruption or unavailability of attachments and snapshots, and for an incomplete or failed restore, including in particular deletion, restriction or modification by Discord, the suspension or termination of the service, deletion of a snapshot by the user, or the end of the subscription.
- Your own backup. The Snapshots service is not an archiving or data retention service and does not replace your own, independent backup of important images, videos and files; making such a backup is the user's responsibility.
- Termination. If the service ends or the account is deleted, the snapshots are deleted and cannot be recovered later.
6. Suspension and termination
- If these terms or Discord's rules are violated, we may stop backups and snapshots, restrict access, or ban the server from the service. For illegal servers or content, see the Prohibited section above.
- Misuse of the service itself – for example attempts to get around the limits or the permissions, flooding the service with requests, or sending false or repeated reports through the "Report a server" page – may lead to a temporary or permanent ban of the IP address or the account. The service records such activity in its logs, as described in the Privacy Policy (section 3).
- You can stop using the service at any time: stop the backup, kick the bot from the server, or delete your account on the Billing page.
7. Liability
The service does not guarantee that data is preserved. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for:
- files – the loss, deletion or unavailability of images, videos and other attachments, and of the server icon, banner, emojis, stickers and avatars, whether on Discord, on the backup server or in a snapshot (a snapshot only stores links to these);
- backups and snapshots – the backup server or any part of it, or a snapshot, becoming incomplete, out of date, corrupted, lost or impossible to restore because of an error, outage or update of the bot, a change, restriction or error of Discord, a change of the server's permissions, or any other reason;
- any direct or indirect damage, lost profits or data loss arising from the above, or from the use or unavailability of the service.
Backups and snapshots are a convenience service and do not replace your own, independent backup of important data – making one is your responsibility.
Limits of liability:
- We are liable without limit for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health – this cannot be excluded by law.
- For slight negligence we are liable only where we breach an essential obligation without which the contract cannot be performed, and even then only up to the damage that is typical and foreseeable for a contract of this kind. In every other case, liability for slight negligence is excluded.
- If you use the service as a business (not as a consumer), our liability is further limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
- None of this affects the mandatory rights of consumers, and these limits apply equally to our staff and anyone we use to provide the service.
8. Changes, governing law, contact
We may change these terms. We will announce significant changes on the website at least 14 days before they take effect (and to subscribers in a Discord message too); by continuing to use the service, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, you can cancel your subscription or stop using the service before the change. These terms are governed by Hungarian law; this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country you live in. Data processing is described on the Privacy page. Questions and complaints: Varjas Máté János, [email protected].
